This kind of tribalism is irritating. Yeah, Trump is very much who the GOP is, but he’s also who the Democrats are. Trump used to be a Democrat. Trump, in very recent years, used to donate money to Clinton and other Democrats. This isn’t a fluke or anomaly, either. Here is a list of Clinton’s biggest donors in her first US Senate run, provided by Open Secrets:
Hey, look at that. Kushner Companies. You know, the same Kushner companies that was run by Jared Kushner’s father until he was hit with criminal charges, at which point Jared Kushner took over operations of the company. You know, the same Jared Kushner who is an advisor to our Republican President and married to said President’s daughter. Oh, and why was Jared’s father indicted? From Wikipedia:
In the summer of 2004, Kushner was fined $508,900 by the Federal Election Commission for contributing to Democratic political campaigns in the names of his partnerships when he lacked authorization to do so. In 2005, following an investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey, U.S. Attorney Chris Christie negotiated a plea agreement with Kushner, under which he pleaded guilty to 18 counts of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion, and witness tampering.
So, Hillary Clinton’s daughter’s friend, Ivanka Trump, is married to the guy whose father was criminally charged with making illegal campaign contributions to Democratic political campaigns (including Hillary Clinton’s), and this was all prosecuted by Chris Christie, who cut some deal that had Charles Kushner back in action and contributing in Democratic campaigns up to 2015, and now we’re supposed to like corporate Democrats (the people who were taking Kushner’s money for political favors) and hate Donald Trump, Chris Christie, and Jared Kushner?
Get out of here with this tribalistic bullshit; I can’t stand any of them. These plutocrats and their political minions are all the same people, and they have nothing to do with rank-and-file Democratic or Republican voters. Sure, Donald Trump is the GOP, but he’s also the Democratic Party. He may be more repugnant, more buffoonish, and more openly racist than a typical Democrat politician, but they all have a lot more in common with each other than they do with us, and one of the commonalities they share is they really don’t give a shit about us.
I say fuck your two parties. I’m not interested in neoliberal disasters or neofascist catastrophes, and I won’t be voting for anyone from either of the two major parties until they stop being such irredeemable dickheads.
I’ve always kind of wondered what the Clintons got the Trumps as a wedding gift.
