What I’m driving at between equality versus freedom is that as the state, or an authority, takes measures to force equality of outcome it has to reduce the freedom of the individual.

This all depends on what you’re measuring and how you’re measuring it. Suppose we wanted to ask everyone the binary question, “are you liberated?” Ideally, for anyone whose morality is rooted in something at least resembling benevolence, shouldn’t we value an equality of outcome of “yes” to that answer for everyone? If individual freedom is important, then isn’t it optimal if every individual feels liberated?
