The US does not rank in the top 10 for electrical grid quality. Those that do have a far greater proportion of public ownership and maintenance of their grids. In South Korea, for instance, KEPCO runs 93% of their power grid and is 51.11% owned by the South Korean government.

Maybe billionaires should pay more taxes and the people should own a larger stake in infrastructure and transportation (for example, Singapore Airlines, consistently the world's best, is 55% owned by the Singaporean government). Perhaps then we could enjoy things such as more advanced power grids and more secure power grid employment, the way Taiwan, Singapore, Germany, Belgium, Japan, South Korea, Finland, Luxembourg, Iceland, Austria, the Netherlands, Denmark, Australia, Sweden, Kazakhstan (!), and China do. That would be great.

If people are serious about this, we should simply reduce the influence of middlemen and democratically run our own infrastructure. We could even invest public funds for shares in startups related to power production and distribution (something that also happens in other countries). I'm happy for the American people to take an ownership stake in anything promising. That's better than bailouts, tax incentives, or grants.
