Hip hop is regularly (and often rightly) criticized for the level of misogyny in its lyrics and culture, but where did this misogyny come from, and why have the likes of Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliott not arisen again in over 15 years? And, in truth, is Nicki Minaj more relevant to the future of hip hop than Kendrick Lamar?
