Reasonable people do not insist that individuals in the past live up to the standards of the present. To believe otherwise requires the erasure of virtually all of history.
Reasonable people understand the past in context, but you are creating a straw man suggesting I am claiming otherwise. Whom we choose to honor and idolize is a choice we make today, not a choice the people being honored snd idolized made. We can remember history in textbooks and museums; this is precisely why we don’t need to erect statues of Hitler on every street corner to remember how bad Nazi Germany was.
This is, of course, utter nonsense. The RW was driven from the northern colonies who repudiated slavery, and accepted the slavery present in the the South only reluctantly.
You’re entitled to your opinion, but just stating it doesn’t make for a persuasive argument.
