If we’re going to critique logical fallacies, I might point out that your argument rests nearly entirely on ad hominem attacks.
Not at all. You are a GOP insider and pundit. You make this clear in your own profile. To your credit, you aren’t hiding this like some alt-right troll. However, I simply cannot take you at face value when you offer strategic advice to the opposition, because the GOP has a vested interest in seeing the Democrats fail. Any advice you offer Democrats should, therefore, be viewed skeptically.
If you feel butt-hurt about that like you’re getting personally attacked, that’s too bad, but the GOP isn’t exactly subtle about attacking the opposition at every turn. I simply have no reason to believe you are earnest in your advice to your political adversaries until you prove otherwise. The onus is on you to make me believe you, not me to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Again, that would require you supplying a logical argument to back up your positions instead of just insulting me and my thoughts on political strategy.
Also, there is a tremendous irony in offering resistance to an autocratic overreaching executive as reason for opposition to a Supreme Court nominee primarily known for his strong views on limiting executive power.
Authoritarianism doesn’t just come in the autocratic variety. Gorsuch is an authoritarian, too. For instance, he doesn’t even believe people should have the degree of personal autonomy over their own bodies to decide to end their own life, even if they’re in tremendous pain and would rather not go on living. That is overreach. That is authoritarianism. That is an assault on individual liberty.
Yet, he is also pro death penalty. How can any person who believes in the sanctity of life to the point he would violate someone’s individual liberty to prevent him from taking his own life also be for the death penalty, when everyone knows that the justice system makes errors and innocent people are sometimes executed? That’s simply not justice and it’s not even internally consistent.
Like I said; the guy is a hack.
This is one of the primary reasons I feel so strongly that Gorsuch is the right man for the job.
Not everyone is as anti-authoritarian as I am. Others are OK with unqualified people telling them how to live and what to do. I’m not.
