Letters to the editor used to be a thing in journalism. You could try that. Alternatively, comments could be revealed only after the story’s author (not the editor) approve them. It gives more gatekeeping power to the writers and/or editors, but I am OK with that. There is no need to let morons and bots devalue your journalistic efforts if you don’t want them to.
If Al Jazeera readers need a break from sanity, they can still go to the Yahoo comments section and take a quick dip in the toilet bowl of the internet.
