If Clinton had adopted this as part of her platform in the primaries and stuck with it in the general election, it probably would have been enough to secure the win. If she had proposed a carbon tax with the revenue being distributed to every American, or a tax on Wall Street speculation with the revenues going to every American, that would have resonated with a lot of voters. It makes it a lot easier to convince people to vote for you if you’re telling them you’re literally going to give them money, year after year, just for being American citizens.

This seems like such a layup that it’s mind-boggling why she didn’t try this, until you remember whose candidate she really was, where she got her money, and who she really intended to work for as the president.
