Casting Aspersions on Election Workers is Pathetic

People working all night long to count votes are generally wage workers or volunteers. They are overwhelmingly working class. In most states, there are strict procedures where workers are drawn from both parties, with transparent chains of custody for ballots as they are processed. In some cases, the counts are even live-streamed, so you can watch it yourself.

Make no mistake about it; painting these workers as suspect or incompetent is class warfare. Showing up with guns and amassing outside a place where workers are trying to do their jobs is class warfare. These workers are normal people performing a crucial component of the democratic process. Of course it comes as no surprise that a fascist plutocrat would wage war against them and this process, but it is truly pathetic that some of the same people who anguish over how liberals and conservatives cannot even speak civilly to each other anymore, also back this attack on people carrying out their supposed dream of bipartisan functionality. Because, again, these counting operations are staffed by Democrats and Republicans, coming together to make sure everything is going according to protocol, checking each other’s work so that every citizen’s vote is counted.

All I suggest is to pay attention. Look who is engaging in class warfare. Attacking everyday people and sending goon squads to workplaces where normal people are carrying out a bipartisan effort to maintain democracy is, of course, the same tactic a union-busting hotelier and casino mogul would use to get his way. Nobody who is acutely aggressive toward workers is making anything great. Don’t be duped into thinking this is acceptable or equivalent to his political opponents engaging in rhetoric that we should allow these folks to do their jobs and be grateful for them doing it.
