There’s something twisted about a moral code that tries to mitigate immorality by outdoing the villain.

I believe this is what pseudo-liberals — or the “control left”, a moniker I learned from Maajid Nawaz — are trying to do.

And I believe you’re wrong. Nobody on the left is trying to out-villain Trump. Nobody on the left is trying to be more racist, more xenophobic, more misogynistic, more ableist, more murderous, more fascist, more Islamophobic, more corrupt, more avaricious, more disenfranchsing, or more dishonest than Trump.

What people on the left are actually doing in the real world — not the imaginary wold where the “control left” is a thing and alternative facts are facts — is standing up for their rights and standing up for their humanity.

There is nothing wrong with university students protesting Milo Yiannopolous. What, he can express his opinions but the protestors who go to the universities in question cannot? How does that make even one iota of sense?

There is also nothing wrong with speaking out against Shopify for distributing neo-nazi propaganda. Are you saying people aren’t entitled to their opinions about businesses? Should we just get rid of Yelp, too, because of all those pesky negative reviews? The choices Yiannopolous and Shopify make and things they say have consequences. One of those consequences is they are going to be justifiably reviled and people are going to protest them. People have a right to protest them. Free speech cuts both ways.

Just the facts: Writer. Gamer. Feminist. Educated in Astrophysics. Professional Gambler. Student of Language. Satanist. Anarchist.
